APGCAN JUNE Presentation – Wendy Vincent on Canadian Windrush Expats
|
Wednesday Jun 4, 2025 ⋅ 7:30pm – 9pm (Eastern Time – Toronto)
|
Please save the date for a special presentation by Wendy Vincent to mark Windrush Month, the Windrush Generation*, and Canadian Windrush Expats.
Her talk will build on the strength of Migrant Stories, which was on display at The City of Toronto’s Market Gallery from March to May, 2024, the content of which was inspired by her conversations with a 98 year old Anglosphere subject matter expert, her Uncle Lloyd Lindo. In addition to clips from Uncle Lloyd’s video diary, Wendy will share objects from the installation including “The Grip,” Lloyd’s luggage that he carried from Jamaica to England and on to Canada, and discuss childhood kinship adoption, grief, and the West African significance of dreams. Wendy has honoured Lloyd’s contemporaries’ stories by amplifying and positioning them in the public domain, which is where they should rightfully be. Shares her personal connection to ‘Uncle Lloyd’ through the generations of this extended family of the Windrush Generation, and brings full circle adoptive stories as connection and intersection as an adoptive Mom herself. *Windrush Month commemorates the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush in Britain on June 22, 1948, and the subsequent arrival of many others from the Caribbean between 1948 and 1971. Wednesday, June 4 · 7:30 – 9:00pm
Time zone: America/Toronto
